Onkaparinga Neighbourhood Play Streets, delivered by the City of Onkaparinga, is a community-based project targeted at neighbourhoods who have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. Organised street play encourages children and families to get outside and connect with their neighbours through fun and inclusive physical activities, growing quality connections and helping unite people.
To date successful Play Streets events have been held in Hackham West, Christie Downs and Coromandel Valley. Residents of the streets have been enthusiastic participants, with families bringing their own sporting equipment to use and share. Play Streets are providing an opportunity for local residents to come together, with new connections being made at the events.
A sports equipment library has been established with equipment being utilised to support Play Streets events and giveaways of chalk, skipping ropes, Frisbees and sunscreen have been put to good use at events.
Play Streets will continue to be delivered in suburbs across the City of Onkaparinga through to June. For more information about upcoming Play Streets events visit the City of Onkaparinga Facebook page.
