Healthy Cities Onkaparinga aims to use community interest in the food distribution system as an opportunity to connect, engage and inspire those who are vulnerable in the north of the community. They are looking to build a more sustainable local food system that supports the community’s wellbeing.
Healthy Cities Onkaparinga kicked off their Community Food Expo series with a very successful expo in Aberfoyle Park on 26 February, followed by a second successful expo in Old Reynella just prior to Easter and a final expo at the Woodcroft Community Centre in April.
Those attending the expos were treated to cooking demonstrations, gardening information and demonstrations, information stalls, seed giveaways and a Grow Free cart of fresh, locally grown produce. Interested community members participated in a ‘kitchen table’ conversation about access to healthy foods and food sustainability and shared what they need to feel confident to connect over food.
